Urodynamic unit:
Urodynamic testing is any procedure that looks at how well parts of the lower urinary tract—the bladder, sphincters, and urethra—work to store and release urine.
In order to accurately assess the functional disorders of the lower urinary system, we need high-tech equipment beside trained physicians and nurses.
The urodynamic unit of Dr. Sheikh Hospital is the only specialized pediatric urodynamic center in the east of the country, which was established in 2001. This unit admits inpatients and outpatients who referred from urology clinics from all over Khorasan Razavi and neighboring provinces every day except Thursdays. Patients are visited by urologists.
Urodynamic procedure consist following tests:
Uroflowmetry:
Uroflowmetry is a widely used noninvasive screening modality for patients who present with symptoms of lower urinary dysfunction. Patients will be asked to urinate three time into a special toilet used for testing. (Without the need for catheterization). Thorough this method, the volume-time diagram during voiding phase is examined. For this test, patient should arrive at the doctor’s office with a fairly full bladder. Patient will be asked to urinate into a funnel connected to the electronic uroflowmeter.
Cystometry:
Cystometry in an invasive but complete and superior screening method for patients who present with symptoms of lower urinary dysfunction. Through this method two flexible, thin plastic catheter is then slowly inserted through the urethra and into your bladder and also rectum of patient. Then patient’s bladder will be slowly filled with normal saline under standard condition. These tests measure and assess how well the bladder functions (during filling and emptying of the bladder). They help diagnose problems related to urine control. These can be incontinence, difficulty emptying the bladder, overactive bladder, obstructions or frequent infections.
