Speech-Language Pathology:

Speech–language pathology is a field of expertise practiced by a clinician known as a speech–language pathologist (SLP) or a speech and language therapist. It’s one of the rehabilitation sciences. SLPs specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorders (speech and language impairments), cognitive-communication disorders, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders. There is no age limitation among these patients.  First SLPs diagnose speech and language disorders which were caused by genetic or environmental factors. At second step they evaluate the amount of damage and then they start treatment procedure.

Most common speech-language disorders and impediments are: stuttering–stammering, speech delay–alalia, aphasia, spasmodic dysphonia, sensorineural hearing loss, stroke, phonemic disorders, speech sound disorder and etc. 

Requirements of specializing in this field are: learning sciences such as neuroanatomy, linguistics, psychiatry, etc., as well as specialized subjects in the evaluation and treatment of speech, language and swallowing disorders.
