Febrile Seizures in North Iranian Children :Epidemiology and Clinical Features

Background: Febrile seizure (FS) is the most common neurological disorder in the pediatric population.

Methods: The clinical characteristics of 630 patients who had episodes of FS were retrospectively reviewed

Results: No preference was seen for either sex (1.2/1). In those cases with FS,514(81.6%) convulsions were simple and 116 (18.4%) were complex. A family history of FS was present in 25.7% of the cases reviewed . Generalized seizure types accounted for 99% of the cases _ gastroenteritis with 27.3% was the 10 first etiology . In 28.9% of the cases a past history of FS was noted Recurrent FS was observed in All of patients had complete blood count and electrolytes like Na+,k+,Ca2+and glucose .%12,5 level in records

Conclusion: The present study highlighted that children with FS were often extensively and unnecessarily investigated . Though resulting in a significant expense, routine , investigations proved to be of little value and also highlighted epidemiologic feature of febrile seizure in north of Iran.
